An integrative review exploring the experiences of service users carrying a diagnosis of personality disorder and student mental health nurses and the time they share together

Abstract Objectives This integrative review provides a collective understanding of the experiences student mental health nurses and service users carrying diagnosis personality disorder time they share together. Design Published studies about students together were systematically selected in order to integrate their findings thematic analysis. Data sources Various databases searched from 1984 until 2020. Specific search terms used. Review methods 37 included review. The peer reviewed nursing, student, psychology related journals. A quality appraisal was completed using Walsh Downe (2006) framework. Findings Four themes emerged analysis These were; 1. ‘Psychosocial skills’ 2. ‘Relationships’ 3. ‘Environment’ With ‘Impact time’ as an overarching theme. Conclusion positive environment which considers focuses on seeing person, individual can lead development therapeutic relationships; core element Nursing Midwifery Council standards for nursing registration UK ( Council, 2018 ). Students attempting build such relationships need be mindful users' own attachment impact these have transference countertransference, particularly diagnosis. It is important aware supportive environments how doing ‘everyday stuff’ make person feel human despite residing potentially dehumanizing places.
